The Great Continental Shift

It's been a while since any of us posted. Many things have happened since then, one of the Easties has had her 2nd baby, the other is a proud homeowner in Brooklyn. As for me, I've been back in Singapore, the island republic oxymoron for 3 years now! So happy to be back with family and friends. After a proud period of continuous employment for 3 years, I'm finally getting round to cooking, baking and general pottering around again. Now I have content to blog about! Happiness is edible!

Deep-fried goodness

I've always said that I hope to die of a heart attack before cancer gets me (the statistics are just depressing). Well, if these help achieve that, then, bring it on!

Oh-so-lovely beignets with chicory coffee at Cafe Du Monde, New Orleans, Louisiana, no less! Happiness in a slice of fried dough!

foodie in tokyo

Being in Tokyo, with the run of a friend's apartment was great.

We went to the great basement of Isetan where there are AMAZING food of all kinds on sale.

Not knowing which "stall" had the best soba or the best deep fried croquette things, Mateo made the wise choice of going to the ones with the longest line. I had the BEST deep fried oysters!

I love supermarkets of all kinds....
especially the japanese ones with these amazingly marbled cuts.

I lingered at the wax display.... hmmm... pizza and egg, my 2 favorite combo.

Death by duck and other stories

Squid stuffed with minced meat that's all garlicky and flavourful! Sheena made it!

Sopa Azteca, the bestest tortilla soup in the world!

Aforementioned seared duck breast with a cherry port sauce, yums... The duck liver pate and roast duck did not make the picture

What I ate in Feb

I've been celebrating my birthday the entire month of February the last few years. I figured since it's the shortest month of the year, I'm entitled to it.

It usually consists of many rounds of good food and this year I was fortunate enough to be in 3 countries for it (I usually do try to wrangle a trip or two out of that special month).

Lily sent me 'uni' (sea urchin) from Catalina Island via FedEx! It was wonderfully creamy and rich and ocean-y tossed with olive oil, garlic and parsley.

I made an oxtail stew that cooked for hours accompanied by really tasty dill spätzel-like dumplings. Yums!

A Shanghai-nese restaurant in Hong Kong served this amazing steamed garlicky shrimp over rice dish wrapped in a giant lotus leaf. I can still taste the fresh sweetness. Mmm...

A coffee crème brûlée with a generous chocolate 'belly' at Tin Hill in Singapore

February was such a happy month...

Mystery part

It's not that hard to guess!
