Dumpster Diving

My roomie’s been preparing to move and after a productive Sunday afternoon of sorting and clearing, she realized that she’d misplaced the sparkly bauble that is a pledge of her fiancé’s love, devotion and earning prowess. We first looked through the obvious places and then it dawned on her that she might have tossed the less-than-snug-fitting ring out along with her old junk.
As her bridesmaid, it's my duty to support her in her endeavors and safeguard her sanity so there was no way I was going to let her go digging through trash alone. So we both put on some gloves and headed out to the dumpster. We went through the bags she had thrown out just hours before and while it was not exactly a perilous undertaking, we did have to watch out for random items of trash that came hurtling down the chute from above. After that failed to turn up anything, her fiancé was called upon to help in the hunt for his investment. We decided to retrace her steps before we go all out and climb into the dumpster and empty its contents.
Of course I'm able to write about this incident because after some frantic searching, the happy couple found the princess cut diamond platinum ring. It was in a shoebox, at the bottom of a pile of things, in her closet. Through it all, not a single harsh word was spoken. Congratulations you two, you’re going to be very happy together.
